I think that however Zulawski or any other director might be, there's a rule that I've always had, which states, that as an actor you should always give 100%, to the character, to your work, to the part.
And you should do away with any shyness, modesty or secrecy.

However, I think that you still need to keep a reserve for yourself, and it's that reserve that Zulawski tries to use and exploit.

I don't think he pushes the actors quite the way everybody think he does; I think he's just someone who gives everything his all, so he'll refuse to work with people who don't give 100% themselves. That's why he'll constantly try to push them, and then push them some more, because it's true, when you really look at actors, they're actually very lazy.
You can always go further, you can always do more.
